Above is a diagram of the San Andreas Fault line (red) which is the plate boundary between two plates: the Pacific Plate and the North American plate. This is a transform plate boundary but it is a little different than most transform boundaries because it has a big bend in it. This bend is where the San Gabriel Mountains were formed.
