Let’s go outside and catch a different kind of bug. Use your net to help you capture at least one insect that you can study. 

After doing some net catching, survey the insects you’ve caught by slowly opening the net, bit by bit, recording the different types in your notebook

on your phone as you find them. Take pictures and write down descriptions that allow you to distinguish between varieties (for example, “tiny black fly”).

For one of the insects you caught, identify the name and species so you can do more research. You can also use the Seek app by iNaturalist to identify insects. 

Research one of the insects further and take notes in your notebook. Be prepared to share what you found out about this insect. 

Prior to the Industrial Revolution (1820-1850)  there were two kinds of peppered moths - light colored and dark colored, that lived on tree trunks that were light in color.
